First Aid Emergency Guide

Quick reference for common medical emergencies. Always call emergency services for serious situations.

Emergency Numbers

In case of emergency, call your local emergency services immediately:

  • India: 112 (Emergency) / 108 (Ambulance)
  • Fire: 101
  • Police: 100

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

  1. 1Call emergency services immediately (dial local emergency number)
  2. 2Place person on firm surface on their back
  3. 3Place heel of hand in center of chest, other hand on top
  4. 4Push hard and fast - at least 2 inches deep
  5. 5Give 30 chest compressions at 100-120 per minute
  6. 6Give 2 rescue breaths (tilt head back, lift chin, pinch nose)
  7. 7Continue cycle of 30 compressions and 2 breaths

Burns

  1. 1Remove person from heat source
  2. 2Cool the burn with cool (not ice-cold) running water for 10-20 minutes
  3. 3Remove any jewelry or tight clothing before swelling starts
  4. 4Cover burn with sterile, non-stick bandage or clean cloth
  5. 5Do NOT apply ice, butter, or ointments
  6. 6For severe burns, seek medical attention immediately
  7. 7Give over-the-counter pain reliever if needed

Bleeding

  1. 1Wash your hands if possible
  2. 2Apply direct pressure with clean cloth or bandage
  3. 3Maintain pressure for 10-15 minutes without checking
  4. 4If blood soaks through, add more cloth on top
  5. 5Elevate injured area above heart level if possible
  6. 6Once bleeding stops, secure bandage with tape
  7. 7Seek medical help for severe or persistent bleeding

Electric Shock

  1. 1DO NOT touch the person if still in contact with electrical source
  2. 2Turn off power source or disconnect power
  3. 3Call emergency services immediately
  4. 4Once safe, check for breathing and pulse
  5. 5Begin CPR if necessary
  6. 6Cover any burns with sterile gauze
  7. 7Keep person warm and lying down until help arrives

Choking

  1. 1Encourage coughing if person can cough
  2. 2If unable to cough/speak/breathe, perform Heimlich maneuver
  3. 3Stand behind person, wrap arms around waist
  4. 4Make fist above navel, grasp with other hand
  5. 5Give quick upward thrusts into abdomen
  6. 6Repeat until object is dislodged
  7. 7Call emergency services if unsuccessful

Cuts and Wounds

  1. 1Wash hands thoroughly
  2. 2Stop bleeding by applying gentle pressure
  3. 3Clean wound with clean water
  4. 4Apply antibiotic ointment if available
  5. 5Cover with sterile bandage
  6. 6Change bandage daily or when wet/dirty
  7. 7Watch for signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus)

Fractures

  1. 1Do not move injured person unless necessary
  2. 2Immobilize injured area
  3. 3Apply ice pack wrapped in cloth (not directly on skin)
  4. 4Do not try to realign bone
  5. 5For open fracture, cover wound with sterile bandage
  6. 6Treat for shock - keep warm, elevate legs
  7. 7Seek immediate medical attention

Heat Stroke

  1. 1Move person to cool, shaded area
  2. 2Remove excess clothing
  3. 3Cool person with wet cloths or spray water
  4. 4Fan the person
  5. 5Give cool water to drink if conscious
  6. 6Apply ice packs to armpits, groin, neck, and back
  7. 7Call emergency services - heat stroke is life-threatening
